Loving, intelligent, sensible and calm are all qualities you can attribute to this charismatic breed. Although a giant breed, Leos possess an elegant as well as a kind demeanor. Leos are definitely family dogs and are loyal and loving companions to "their humans". They have a special affinity to children. Leos are very sensitive and thrive on attention from their owners. These dogs are not aloof - they are "house dogs" and like to be an integral part of their family. This breed was developed in Germany in the mid 1800's by the mayor of Leonberg to resemble the lion on the town crest. The Leonberger's primary function was to be a watch/companion dog. Today one can see Leonbergers participating in conformation, obedience, carting, search and rescue etc. We currently own 5 Leos - a wonderful combination of "brains and beauty". All have attained their Canadian Championships as well as their Canine Good Citizen titles. Our dogs actively participate in the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog program as well as the R.E.A.D. (Reading Assistant Therapy Dog) program.

Our Leos are genetically screened before they are bred. (Hips, elbows, hearts, eyes, thyroid are all certified.) They are active participants in running our horse farm - we wanted a breed that could look formidable but be gentle and trustworthy with livestock and invited guests.

We believe that good nutrition compliments good genetics.

Puppy inquiries are welcome. All potential puppy owners must complete a questionnaire and are strongly encouraged to come and meet our Leos in person. Puppies are sold by reservation only.
